A parade in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary will coincide with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday on Saturday.
Indivisible groups across the country are planning their own events, including in Burke County.
Indivisible Burke NC will hold a “Rally for Democracy†from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 14, on the Historic Burke County Courthouse grounds in downtown Â鶹´«Ã½. Indivisible Burke NC says it is a nonpartisan, nonviolent, action-oriented organization.
The organization says the event will take place outside, rain or shine. No seating is provided, so participants should bring a chair. There will not be any food or beverage vendors and people are encouraged to bring water.
“On June 14 — Flag Day — Donald Trump wants tanks on the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle designed to project strength,†Indivisible Burke NC said. “However, true power is not orchestrated in Washington. It emerges from everywhere else.â€
The group said it strives to create a democracy that is broad, inclusive and where every voice counts.
